What is IBM z mainframe?
IBM Z runs operating systems including z/OS, z/VM, z/VSE, z/TPF, and Linux. In fact, it is common for multiple operating systems to run on a single mainframe.
What is IBM z architecture?
z/Architecture, initially and briefly called ESA Modal Extensions (ESAME), is IBM’s 64-bit CISC instruction set architecture implemented by its mainframe computers. … Each z/OS address space, called a 64-bit address space, is 16 exabytes in size, 8 billion times the size of the former 2-gigabyte address space.
What is Z OS in the mainframe?
Z/OS is a 64-bit operating system (OS) developed by IBM for its family of z/Architecture enterprise mainframe computers, including the zEnterprise 196 and zEnterprise 114. Z/OS is an extremely scalable and secure high-performance operating system based on 64-bit z/Architecture.

Large Scale Enterprise Computing powers all major transactions, and the Mainframe is responsible for 87% of all credit card transactions and enables 71% of all Fortune 500 companies. Mainframes are fundamental to how we do business, and IBM Z is the only production mainframe sold today. Virtually everyone depends on it. This is your introduction to the hardware, operating systems, security, and features that make this possible.
On successful completion of this course, learners are eligible to earn their Introduction to Enterprise Computing badge.
This course mostly hands-on in an IBM Mainframe z/OS Environment. A total of seven labs will provide live access to an IBM Z server. The labs are designed to teach you the fundamental practical skills to navigate and work in a z/OS environment. This includes the use of ISPF/PDF dialogs and TSO/E commands.
Upon completing this course, the learners can claim the badge for Getting Started on Mainframe with z/OS Commands and Panels.
The foundational knowledge for an IBM z/OS System Programmer and System Administrator’s position begins with this third and final course in the three-course professional certificate track. This course provides hands-on labs to everyday z/OS tasks with JCL, JES, ISHELL, HFS, and z/OSMF. Topics covered include VSAM, z/OS System Libraries, the Language Environment, Generation Data Groups, RAIM, DB2, UNIX System Services, and USS File System.
Upon completing this course, the learners can claim the Basic System Programming on the IBM Z badge.
This specialization will kick-off your career in the enterprise platform that powers over 68% of worldwide transactions. Learners will build complete foundational skills in IBM Z hardware and software, especially around z/OS and System Administration. This course includes hands-on labs on a real IBM Z server (no simulations), giving the learner real-world experience.
